Both the Saturday and the Sunday were rest days for these championships. On the Sunday we decided to go for a drive and explore some of the local area. We had travelled to the first two games in Bruce Pooley's car and the arrangement was that Bruce would come in our car to the third and fourth game. Therefore we drove to the Maroochydore Cricket Club ground to make sure we knew its location then continued into Maroochydore to locate the Maroochy RSL where the the Championship Dinner was to be held. After that it was time to explore.
Our first stop was at Cotton Tree, near Maroochydore, where we parked the car and went for a walk by the Maroochy River.
Across the river is a view of the mountains.
Near the caravan park we came to the area where the river flows into the sea.
I wonder who will be the first to get the fish - the pelican or the fisherman?
We returned to the car and drove north via Nambour. Outside Nambour we stopped at a lookout to view the surrounding countryside.
Driving further north to Noosa on a Sunday in September proved to be a mistake as we were unable to locate a place to park near any of the beaches or in Noosa itself. We therefore drove south again mainly on coastal roads. We eventually parked the car at North Shore Beach Mudjimba, a little north of Maroochydore.
We arrived at the beach to discover that the tide was almost in and it was not easy to walk on the soft sand, however we still went for a short walk.
Old Woman Island (Mudjimba Island) can be viewed from the beach.
Maroochydore is only a short distance away.
Dogs certainly like this beach.
The day ended with dinner at the Club Mooloolaba for team and partners involved with the recent Australian Over 70s Cricket tour of England. It was good to be able to catch up with the people we had toured with plus wives who did not go on the tour - Helen Fisher, Heather Gibson and Pauline Stackpoole. This time I had salmon fishcakes for dinner while Robin had the Chicken surf 'n' turf.
It had generally been a relaxing day.
