Saturday 25 November
Went for an early walk including going to Cobblestone Park where the Produce Market was setting up.
After breakfast we drove to Margaret River. On the way to Margaret River the guidance map took us on a roundabout route from outside Busselton to Margaret River. We therefore saw lots of sights and roads, including a dirt one, that tourists do not normally see. Still, we eventually arrived at our destination.First stop was the information centre in the main street. Nearby we saw a garden with kangaroo paw growing.
At the information centre we were told about the Old Settlement and a walk by the Margaret River. It was a short walk down the main street to the settlement.A number of old buildings depict the settlement of Margaret River in the 1920s.Dairying was a major industry in the area at that time. The settlement was on the banks of the Margaret River. We had lunch at the Margaret River Bakery – beef and mushroom pie for me and a sausage roll for Robin plus hot drinks. We then drove to Surfers’ Point where I took photos of the coastline. There were many striking views.Next stop on our excursion was the Margaret River Chocolate Factory. I enjoyed a classic chocolate ice cream while Robin had a coffee and then decided to have a honeycomb ice cream which he also enjoyed. We purchased a bar of chocolate for Andrew and Gina in Perth to go with the bottle of wine that Robin won at the first cricket match. We also purchased a Chokka Quokka to share ourselves after dinner. The Margaret River area is well known for the many vineyards in the region. As we drove back to Bunbury we stopped to take photos.
Margaret River has many sights to visit but we just had a short look around as we did not want to wear out Robin’s injured leg.
Once again we had dinner at the hotel – shared two of the small meals – one with calamari and one with prawns with an avocado and tomato salsa.
Bunbury weather –sunny, minimum temperature 18 maximum temperature 36.6.
