Tuesday 28 November
The final cricket match for Victoria 2 was against NSW. It was played at Capel, approximately a 30 minute drive inland from Bunbury. Victoria 2 batted first and at the end of 40 overs had scored 165 runs. NSW replied with 117. Victoria 2 was therefore 5th in First Division.Victoria 1 defeated the ACT to win the First Division championship. Players sometimes leave items of equipment out to dry. This collection looks as if it should be an art exhibit. During the game I went for a walk into the town and took some photos. Like many places we visited in this region, murals were often on walls of buildings. Many towns we visited had public libraries. This one also had a mural on the wall.
The Shire Offices were in the main road. The Capelberry Cafe and Delicatesan was across the road.
The RSL building and war memorial - another feature of the town. The cricket ground was on the edge of this country town. After the game we returned to Bunbury for the championship dinner which was at the Italian Club. Entre was prawn cocktail or Asian noodles, salad and beef. The main course was a smorgasbord offering lasagna (beef or vegetable) - I had some of each - plus a choice of roast meat with potatoes. The beans ran out when we reached the end of the queue. Desert was a lemon slice or sticky date pudding. Rodney Hogg was the guest speaker. He was probably funny but spoke too quickly for many of us oldies to follow.
Back at the hotel we started to pack our bags for the trip to Perth.
Bunbury weather – partly cloudy, minimum temperature 17.7 maximum temperature 25.
