Isle of Skye

Saturday 16 August
Kyle of Lochalsh is located at the entrance of Loch Alsh.
Just past this village is the bridge that takes us to the Isle of Skye.
After crossing the bridge the bus drove to Portree, the main town on the Island. We stayed at the Tongadale Hotel.
Once we had settled in we explored the town.
The post office was opposite the hotel and the signs show the use of Gaelic as well as English.
Portree overlooks Loch Portree and is a very pretty town.
There are lots of small vessels moored in the Loch, especially in the evening.
There are many small colourful buildings by the pier.
Later in the evening fishing for mackerel from the pier was a popular and quite successful past-time.
Both on the Isle of Skye - Isle of Skye Ice Cream - and on the Orkneys - the Orkney Icecreamy -  we saw many signs advertising their special ice cream. Unfortunately when we were in Scotland it was not really the ideal weather for eating ice cream. However I am sure that it is very good.
