Over 70s National Cricket Championships - Albury - Wodonga - Social events

The cricket carnival ran from 19 - 25 November. On the Tuesday afternoon the Victorian Team had a brief practice session - the weather was very hot - in preparation for the first match the next day. In the evening we all wandered down to the Commercial Club in Dean Street where the Meet and Greet was held.
It was great to catch up with many of the people we had toured with and / or played against in the past. After the formalities the Vic I team met for a pre-tour dinner at the Commercial Club. Several of has chose the Mediterranean pasta only to discover that it had more olives in it than we had expected. Consequently there was soon a plate of olives on the table for olive eaters to enjoy. The meal started with soup and for many of (for old times sake) bread and butter custard and ice cream.

After the second match on Thursday 21 November there was a reunion dinner for Australian Over 70s Tour of England in 2018. We met at the Huon Hill Quest Hotel, Wodonga. It was a good evening with plenty of opportunity to catch up with friends made on the tour, particularly those from interstate. At dinner lively conversations with Alan, Tom, Harry and his wife, Roween.

The food was good but very generous serves - Robin had a huge chicken parmigiana.

On the Saturday the Victoria I team had a team dinner at Brady's Railway Hotel in Smollet Street, Albury. This was another good social evening - Joel, Ron and Laureen joined us at our table.

On Monday 24 November the Championship Dinner was once again held at the Commercial Club. Technically, because we had attended a function at this venue a few days before, the sign in receipts were current for that evening too. Unfortunately we were greeted by an officious staff member who was not convinced that I should also be there. A couple of the other wives received similar treatment. Once we got into the venue we enjoyed the evening.
