Norfolk Broads

An excursion to the Norfolk Broads was arranged so we climbed into the coach for the short trip to Wroxham.
We arrived early so that we could have lunch and also have a look around before boarding the boat. Unfortunately there was a mix up with the tickets and instead of sailing at 2.00 we left at 3.30. Consequently we had a little time to fill in. The local birds were happy to entertain us.
Once on the boat the cruise was along the river linking two of the broads (lakes) in the area.
The broads have been discovered to have been man made. The larger one was created when peat was removed from the area while the smaller one was created when sand was excavated.
It was a relaxing cruise with an excellent commentary on the history and life on the broads.
Reeds grow in some places near the banks.
Boating is obviously a popular activity.
Returning to Wroxham we passed a number of attractive houses by the river bank. Some of the houses still have thatched roofs.
We also passed an area where old boats that used to sail in the area are being renovated.
Back at Wroxham. It had been a relaxing afternoon.
